About the Chair of Anesthesiology - David A. Zvara, MD

Dr. Zvara will join UNC in November 2008. Dear Colleagues: We are quite pleased to announce the appointment of David A. Zvara, MD as our next Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, effective November 17, 2008. Dr. Zvara will be joining us from Ohio State University, where he currently serves as the Jay J. Jacoby Professor and Chair. He received his M.D. and completed his residency and internship in anesthesiology at Ohio State University. Before his appointment at Ohio State, Dr. Zvara served as Professor of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Wake Forest University. Dr. Zvara is a recognized researcher and educator in anesthesiology. He serves as a senior examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology, is on the Board of Directors for the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and is the author of two textbooks in the areas of cardiothoracic anesthesiology and echocardiography. Dr. Zvara remains active in research and education and is committed to leading UNC-CH to the top tiers of academic programs in anesthesiology. Under his leadership, we expect the department to make even greater contributions to patient care, education, and research in anesthesiology. We are quite grateful to Ed Norfleet, MD, who has ably served as Chair of this Department and who will continue in this role until Dr. Zvara's arrival.
